What is…
The TASK™ Resource Hub?
This space brings together all the resources for institutions using TASK™, grouped according to their different needs. These resources aim to equip institutions, facilitate the deployment of TASK™, and promote its mission to spread acculturation to sustainability.
Intro2TASK?
An introductory guide to better understand the major themes covered by the TASK™ knowledge domain. It aims to help staff and students grasp Sulitest’s approach to sustainability, and to inspire them to learn more. The guide proposes a set of selected resources to clarify the knowledge assessed by TASK™️. Find it here.
A “navigational chart”?
Sulitest has designed navigational charts for each of the 28 TASK™️ subjects to help teachers align their courses with TASK™️ questions. The subject navigational charts are by no means exhaustive or definitive, and will continue to evolve over time. They must be adapted to the context of each course and its pedagogy. Find them here.
The TASK™ matrix?
The TASK™ matrix is made up of 28 subjects that TASK™ evaluates across 4 distinct types of knowledge. Each block of the matrix is assessed by a question in TASK™. Find more about the matrix here
TASK™'s theoretical frameworks?
TASK™ is based on 4 theoretical frameworks:
- The United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development (the SDGs)
- Stockholm Resilience Center's Planetary Limits
- Raworth's Donut Economy
- Messerli's Levers for Action (2019).
You'll find their articulation and more details in the TASK™ position paper located here
Sulitest?
Sulitest is both an association and a social business. Our mission: to mainstream sustainability literacy! Read more on our website here.
TASK™?
TASK™, The Assessment of Sustainability Knowledge, is a 112-question multiple-choice online psychometric test that measures both the quantity and quality of sustainability knowledge possessed by test participants. As an internationally recognized micro-credit, TASK™ also provides a digital certificate of the score achieved.
For institutions using TASK™ to assess the collective knowledge of large groups of students, TASK™ provides a wealth of aggregated and disaggregated data that can be used to measure, monitor and drive both sustainability strategy and education across the institution.

Practical questions
What languages is TASK™️ available in?
Currently, TASK™️ is available in French and English.
While we strive to make sustainability the common language of humanity, we know humans speak many languages. Translating TASK™️ into the world’s major languages is important to us and we are working on it.
How much time does it take to complete TASK™️?
TASK™️ must be completed in 80 minutes, but some people complete it faster. The countdown begins when the first question is displayed.
What kind of questions are asked in TASK™️?
TASK™️ uses only standard multiple-choice questions (MCQ), each with four answer options, only one of which is the correct answer. The correct answer is surrounded by three “distractor” or wrong answers. It’s your job to find the single correct or best answer.
Are TASK™️ questions hard?
It depends. Many people tell us that TASK™️ is difficult. And it’s true that some concepts in TASK™️ may be unfamiliar to you, such as planetary boundaries, novel entities, human social foundations, and techniques of individual and collective action for addressing climate change and biodiversity loss. This is because until recently, we didn’t know that we had to care about and be informed of such matters. Who knew that informed citizens had to understand issues related to ocean acidification, access to energy, or the science of sustainability!? So, yes, people do find some questions hard. But as mentioned, this is more an issue of “exposure” than of “difficulty.” That said, and by looking at a question’s aggregate score, we also know that some questions are comparatively “easy.” There are some questions for which over 80% of respondents get the answer right. As for any test, the qualifiers of “difficult” or “easy” are relative terms. They very much depend upon where you are—personally—on your own sustainability learning journey. Certainly, the more you know, the easier TASK™️ will be.
How can I create a TASK™️ session?
You can find the answer to this and other useful information in Recommendations and best practices
Candidates’ preparation
What does Sulitest do to help students get ready to take TASK™️?
Sulitest provides several learning support resources that help you understand how TASK™️ is designed and learn more about its 28 subject areas. Intro2TASK is a ~5-hour introductory guide designed to help you understand the TASK™️ approach to sustainability and get you excited about learning and preparing for it. Sulitest has also developed a detailed synoptic overview of each of the 28 subjects in TASK™️ called the Navigational Charts. Each chart includes key definitions, current state and trends, key ideas and related examples, corresponding international laws, a bank of learning objectives, and key bibliographical resources for additional reading. So, just ask your on-campus TASK™️ administrator for information about accessing these valuable learning materials.
How can I explain TASK™️ to my colleagues and students?
We have a page dedicated to this question: go to Communicating about TASK™️
Can I collaborate with Sulitest with feedback and resources for students?
Of course, we would love to have your input! For all feedback involving resources, please write us at content@sulitest.org
Pedagogical approach
How does TASK™️ compare with other sustainability education frameworks?
Please find this answer here: Aligning TASK™️ with other reference systems.
What main themes will I encounter in TASK™? What is the TASK™ matrix?
The content of TASK™️ is structured through TASK™️ matrix, a simple chart that describes how we define sustainability knowledge.
TASK™️’s three main themes—what we call Frameworks—are Earth Systems (the environmental ceiling), Human Welfare (the social foundation), and Levers of Opportunity or action (that make sustainability possible, although uncertain). Each framework is comprised of several sub-categories called Domains, and each domain is sub-divided into more specific Subjects.
Make a copy of the matrix and keep it on your phone or desk because the matrix is easier to understand by looking at it than by reading a description of it. What’s important is that the matrix is your “map” of the knowledge content of TASK™️. This is the knowledge which you will be tested on when taking TASK™️.
